Welcome to Chile

Due to Chile's location in the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons are reverse than in the Northern Hemisphere. Chile has a population of over sixteen millions inhabitants Mining industry and agriculture are the most important items of the Chilean economy. Copper is the main exported product, followed by cellulose, fruits and vegetables, fish meal. And our sublime wine is found in most countries of the world.

    Santiago
    Chile's capital city is the most important in the country in every sense. It was the first city founded by Spaniards in 1541. A square of 8 x 8 blocks is the center of Santiago where we can find the Plaza de Armas, Cathedral, "La Moneda", the Government Palace, and outstanding museums, like the Pre-Columbian arts museum.

    Visas
    For most of the countries world citizen Visas are not required, although, visitors from Canada, Australia, United States, Mexico, and Albania need to pay upon arrival in Santiago's Airport a "Reciprocity Fee" (USD from $23 - $132) which corresponds to the same fee a Chilean visitor would pay to visit any of those countries. The payment can be made in US$cash or by credit card.

    Travel Insurance
    Before spend the money on a travel insurance policy, make sure that it is not included in your health general policy, cards benefices or others. If you take an extra policy, make sure what is covered and what do you need to do in case of damage or others in the country to get your money back. Most companies will only reimburse you once you return to your country.

    Vaccinations
    No vaccinations are required to visit Chile. Most of health problems may be avoid observing few precautions. Most of tropical diseases are not present in Chile.

    Taxes
    General tax in Chile is the IVA of 19% which is always included in listed prices.

    Santiago Shopping
    Most shops open between 9 and 10 am, and Shopping Centers (malls) and Supermarkets generally close between 10 and 9pm.
